5/29/2023 0 Comments Internet speed test speakeasyIt will take at least 1.2 seconds to transmit all these bytes on this8 Mbps service assuming that all these IP packets with the payload arrive without any errorsand not needing re-transmission. That means totransmit the whole message the channel really needs to transmit about 1,200,000 Bytes or 1.2MB or 9,600,000 bits. IP Header is usually 20 Bytes (160 Bits) long.Īssuming that this customer uses 100 Byte payload, each IP Packet will now be 120 Bytes long. And that 1MB message will have to be broken down into 10,000 payload pieces. This is where the information likethe source IP Address, the destination IP Address and additional information about thepayload is included. EachIP Packet also contains an IP Header. Some have smaller size, so the message will take moreIP Packets to transmit while others may have larger size which needs fewer IP Packets. The size of these packets is usuallydetermined by your Local Area Network. The device that sends this email will break down the message into smaller pieces and packagethem into what are called IP Packets. The channel needs to not only transmit thepayload but also some addressing details like where it is coming from and where it isdestined to. But it will actually takelonger as the total information that needs to be transmitted is more than 1MB. You have Ethernet8.0 Mbps service and need to transmit an email which is exactly 1MB in size You mayexpect it will take exactly 1 second to transmit that message. Throughput is the maximum amount of communication or messaging that can betransmitted through a communication channel during an elementary unit of time, usually,in a second.ĭepending on the type of channel, the addressing mechanism used in that channel, the type of messages are being transmitted and how secure the transmission needs tobe-along with physical attributes like temperature, humidity and signal-to-noiseratios-actual measured throughput will vary. As files todownload become increasingly larger, the highest data transfer rate is most desirable. Transfer rate is speed at which data can be transmitted between devices.Mbps is theindustry-standard used by ISPs. One megabit per second equals 1 million bits per second. Mbps transfer rate = megabits per second transfer rate. There are 8 bits in a byte,so we would divide kbps by 8 to get KB/sec transfer rate. Kbps transfer rate = kilobit per second transfer rate. Scroll Keys let you scroll from the keyboard in all applications, with only one set of keys. Grab Scroll can also be started with smartscroll://grabscroll, and stopped with smartscroll://stop With a Wacom pen, set the pen button you want to use for Grab Scroll to generate a key combination, then set that same key combination as the hot key trigger for Grab Scroll. You can also use a hot key to trigger Grab Scroll. With 3 buttons, you can click-and-drag with the middle button to Grab Scroll, or click to open links in a new tab or to perform any other action that does not involve dragging. With a 2-button mouse, set it to use the secondary button and you can then click-and-drag to Grab Scroll, or click without moving the mouse to get the usual "right-click" menu. Grab Scroll works with any kind of mouse, pen & tablet, trackpad, trackball. With iPhone-like inertia, scrolling through multiple pages becomes as easy as grabbing the document and gently "throwing" it in the direction you want.Grab Scroll works everywhere, in almost every window.Graphics tablet and mouse users, Grab Scroll lets you move window contents in a manner similar to the hand tool feature common in graphics programs, except: If you need to adjust the speed, or scroll back up, or skip forward, use the arrow keys as with Hover Scroll (see above), or you can also move the cursor up/down.Īuto Scroll can also be started with smartscroll://autoscroll and autoscrollUp Press your chosen hot key then sit back and relax while the page under your cursor scrolls automatically to keep up with your reading. It’s one of the great unsolved but damn-sure murder cases in American history, a la OJ. This despite police officers finding a hatchet with a broken handle in the basement and proof of Lizzie trying to burn her own clothing, possibly the very worn during the murders. No one else was ever charged with the crime, and since the evidence against Lizzie was not strong enough to convict her in court, she ultimately walked away free. The legend harks way back to 1892, when, after murdering her own father and stepmother with an axe in this very home, young Lizzie was tried and acquitted in the court of law. THE LIZZIE BORDEN HOUSE (MASSACHUSETTS)įound at 230 2nd Street in Fall River, Massachusetts – The Lizzie Borden House easily ranks among the most famous and infamous American haunted houses of all time. As for the 2016 flick THE AXE MURDERS OF VILLISCA, I’ll save you the trouble. Of course, daytime tours and overnight slumber parties can be arranged at the right price, so book a trip and report back to us with your findings. Today, the place is still said to be rife with paranormal occurrences, including roaming phantoms, a door that mysteriously swings open and closed, faint children’s voices crying in the distance, etc. Two additional young house-guests were also found brutally butchered via the same ax, yet no killer was ever apprehended. The history? Well, back on J– all six members of the Moore family were savagely chopped, slaughtered, diced and dumped by an ax-blade that was found in the house next to the victims. in Villisca, Iowa – the infamous Villisca Ax-Murder House is now a popular tourist attraction, replete with a cheekily blood-splattered signpost on the front lawn, for any haunted house completist to come and visit. 5/28/2023 0 Comments Finch small brown birdDuring courtship, males touch bills with the females and then present the females with bits of food. Color seems to be of less importance in dominance and competition, though, and in fact highly colored, urban male house finches were shown to be less competitive than more drably colored males (Hasehawa). Their beak size is an important factor in their visual dominance displays. Male house finches are very dominant and competitive. Sometimes feathers, strings, or other debris are added to the nest materials (Flanagan). The nests are built mostly by females, and they consist primarily of grasses, weeds, fine twigs, leaves, rootlets. The cup shaped nests may be located in a wide variety of places including, conifers, palms, ivy on buildings, cactus, and even holes in man made structures (Kaufman). House Finches often create a “poop wreath” of fecal sacs around the edge of the nest, as they position their themselves to defecate after feeding (Zimmerman). Up to 3 broods per year, sometimes even more are possible (Kaufman). The young leave the nest about 12-15 days after hatching. The incubation process by the female is about 13-14 days.Īfter the eggs hatch, both parents feed the nestlings. The eggs are pale blue, with black and lavender dots mostly at the larger end. The female lays the eggs from February through August and usually takes place in the morning and at the rate of one egg per day (Veit). Sometimes it can even range between 2-6 eggs. Photo by Jim Conradįemale House finches lay four to five eggs at a time. But leading up to 1996 there was a 30% decrease in house finches (Mcwilliam). The BBS which is the breeding bird survey reported an increase of 15% per year since 1996. They have rapidly spread out across the state and are now year round residents of Pennsylvania. Although House Finches do migrate, House Finches in Pennsylvania have been resident. They are extending their range north into southern Canada and south into Mexico. Some northern populations of House Finches are migratory, moving south in the winter. Their flight all is a soft husky “fidlip” or “vweet” (Sibley). The final slurred note is more often heard in House Finches than in the other two species. Compared with Cassin’s and Purple finches, House Finch songs sound slower, rougher, and somewhat less fluid. Females sometimes give a shorter, simpler version of the song. The song often ends with an upward or downward slur, and lasts about 3 seconds. Male House Finches sing a long, jumbled warbling composed of short notes. There are consistent differences in song patterns among House Finches. House Finches also sing and may have song dialects. The fact remains that House Finches are easy to feed and will not starve if the insects are lacking (Valle). They also eat a few small insects, especially aphids, but are primarily seed and fruit eaters at all times of the year (Bird Web). They feed their young regurgitated seeds. The House Finches diet is mostly vegetable matter (seeds, buds, berries and nectar). They also often forage on the ground and perch on weeds, shrubs, and trees. While House Finches flock towards feeders during the non-breeding season, most flocks will stay together and use the bird feeder’s year round. They prefer edge habitats and are absent from dense coniferous forests. They are also found in wild areas such as savannas, desert grasslands and chaparral thickets (Vuilleumier). House Finches are native to open and desert habitats, but now can be found in almost any kind of human altered habitat. The color varies among males, from pale yellow, to orange with bright red (All About Birds). Females also have an indistinctly marked face. Female house finches have blurrier streaks and grayer undersides. The male house finch typically has a red head, breast, and rump, but does not have red coloring on its brown back or wings. Many finches have notched tails but the house finch has only a shallow notch in its tail. The house finch is a relatively small bird with a longish, slightly notched tail, short wings, and a distinctively small bill with a curved culmen (the upper ridge of the bird’s bill). It is very common in suburban areas and is attracted in large numbers to seed feeders. The house finch has spread to a multitude of states and habitats across North America and Hawaii. It was introduced into eastern North America in the 1940’s via the release of cage-raised “Hollywood finches.” These birds quickly became established in the east and interbred with native purple finches (Elliot). It is native to western North America (All about Birds). The House Finch, ( Haemorhous mexicanus) is a bird in the finch family Fringillidae. That’s because plants that are native to areas of high humidity have leaves with pointed ends we like to call ‘drip tips’. I have always noticed many tropical plants (which we refer to here in the north as “houseplants”) have pointed leaves or heart shaped leaves. Water pressure helps them stand up to the heat and not wilt. Transpiration of water through the leaves cools a plant and the vacuum created as vapor escapes pulls water up through the plant tissues, distributing nutrients. Make sure there is enough water in the soil to run a plant’s “air conditioning” system. As the temperature rises, water evaporates faster requiring more water to quench their thirst. They cool themselves by allowing water to evaporate from their leaves. You of course can help because the main defense plants have against high temperatures is water. Generally these plants like succulents have thick waxy leaves and other adaptations for water retention, not the paper thin leaves of a fern. Some plants are acclimated to dry arid air with little humidity. They let you know when they’re not happy. Ficus, Palms, Anthurium or Philodendron to name a few are tropical region plants that benefit from high humidity because it reduces transpiration or water loss, browning of the edges of foliage and can discourage spider mites who love it dry. Indoors with our houseplants summer air conditioning and winter heating is not conducive to a humid environment. They like hanging out on the front porch but are generally not used in interior landscaping for that reason. The ferns are notorious for wanting high levels of humidity and if they don’t get it they have a bad hair day excessively dropping leaves and making a mess. Plants with thicker, waxier leaves are better able to withstand dry air! The sword fern Nephrolepis exaltata are known as “Boston” because a pioneering Florida nurseryman years ago shared them with a friend in Cambridge Massachusetts where they were propagated by a local distributor. With plants the thinner the leaves are, the greater the likelihood of it needing higher humidity. So weather talk is ubiquitous because, well, weather affects everyone, your mood, your comfort level and even your conversations because it’s a neutral topic. Measured on a scale of relative humidity, it ranges from 0% which is dry, to 100% that is completely saturated. As temperature rises the capacity of the air to hold water vapor increases. Humidity is the relative amount of water vapor contained in the air. This is especially true when it gets hot and humid. People talk about weather because it’s safe if you need filler for a lagging conversation. 5/28/2023 0 Comments Kickoff meetingIf you are a project manager, then you’re in luck because we have everything you need to consider for your meeting agenda in the following section. For help addressing those metrics, read on to see what project managers include in their kickoff meeting agenda. If you are running an informal project, your meeting might be casual and you may only need to touch on a few metrics, depending on your audience. Now that you’ve considered some of the basics of the meeting, it’s time to make your agenda and plan what you are actually going to say to the attendees. But the linear predictor, \(X_i\beta\), ranges from \(\pm \infty\) (where \(X\) represents all of the predictors in the model). As a high schooler, you're on the verge of participating in the democratic process. The complications stem from the fact that with logistic regression we model the probability that \(y\) = 1, and probability is always scaled between 0 and 1. Unfortunately, we must deal with new complications when working with logistic regression, making these models inherently more difficult to interpret than linear models. In other words, the fitted values in a logistic or logit model are not binary but are rather probabilities representing the likelihood that the outcome belongs to one of two categories. What makes logistic regression somewhat different from these other methods is that it produces a probability model of the outcome. The machine learning algorithms we have been using for comparison in the previous chapters-KNN, random forest, gradient boosting-will do classification. Logistic regression is probably the most commonly used statistical method for classification. The goal in classification is to create a model capable of classifying the outcome-and, when using the model for prediction, new observations-into one of two categories. But if the outcome variable is binary (0/1, “No”/“Yes”), then we are faced with a classification problem. Until now our outcome variable has been continuous. 8.8.5 Using the model to predict probabilities.8.8.2 Adding predictors and assessing fit.8.8 Logistic regression example: modeling diabetes.8.6 Assessing logistic model performance.8.5 Logistic regression coefficients as odds ratios.
